12:40, lunch

Log your meals. See patterns to review with your doctor.

Scan a meal and Meadow flags foods from your own sensitivity profile that may be worth discussing.

New subscribers only: 3-day free trial, then $2 per week or $50 per year. No account or email required.

a scripted example, not a real scan

  1. Photo: frame the plate and tap the shutter.
  2. Reading: the photo is sent to be read against a sample profile that includes peanuts.
  3. Flagged: Peanut sauce is on the sample sensitivity list, usual in this dish, while Noodles, greens and shrimp show nothing on the profile.
  4. Unconfirmed: the reading stays unconfirmed until you confirm or change the dish name.

Meadow is a food diary, not medical advice. Talk to your doctor about symptoms or before you change what you eat. Meadow is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition.

  1. Scan a meal

Snap your plate and Meadow reads the dish; you can also scan a barcode or type a meal in.

  2. See what's flagged

Foods that match your sensitivity profile are marked Watch: they may be worth discussing, and you can confirm or change the dish name and add ingredients.

3:30, afternoon

Check in after a flagged meal.

If reminders are on, Meadow asks how you feel a few hours after a flagged meal, so symptoms are logged against it.

bloated, a bit tired. After the noodles?

Illustrative example

8:10 breakfast, nothing detected
Bowl of satay noodles in an orange peanut broth with yellow noodles, green bok choy, shrimp and squid, black chopsticks resting in the bowl
12:40 lunch, flagged

7:20, dinner

Not every meal is a flag.

Rice, beef, potato and carrot: nothing detected against this profile. A meal with no mark is still logged, so the pattern has something to compare.

See patterns over time.

The more you log, the more Trends can show which foods keep coming before your symptoms.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, same flag. Worth mentioning?

Each dot is a meal. Rings are nothing detected. Filled marigold dots are Watch flags. Illustrative example.

What stays on your phone, and what doesn't

Kept in the app on your phone

  • Your diary
  • Your symptoms
  • Your sensitivity profile
  • Your meal photos

Scanning a meal sends a copy of that photo away, as listed next.

No account or email required.

Sent off your phone

  • Meals you scan. The photo and its AI reading go to Meadow's servers and to a third-party AI provider, so the meal can be read.
  • Ask Meadow questions. Sent to Meadow's servers and a third-party AI provider, so they can be answered.
  • Barcodes you scan. Looked up in a third-party food database to find the ingredients.
  • Purchase records. Held by Apple, Google and a third-party subscription provider.
  • Basic usage statistics. Counts such as screens opened and meals logged, with no meal names, ingredients, allergens, symptoms or free text. You can switch them off in the app.

Scans, questions, purchase records and usage statistics are tied to a guest ID the app creates for you, not to a name or email.

asked in the margin

Questions, plainly answered

Is this medical advice?

No. Meadow shows patterns from the meals and symptoms you log, and foods marked Watch may be worth discussing with your doctor. Meadow is a food diary, not medical advice. Talk to your doctor about symptoms or before you change what you eat. Meadow is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition.

Does Meadow diagnose allergies?

No. Meadow does not diagnose allergies or intolerances. It compares your meals with the sensitivities you tell it about and marks foods that may be worth discussing with your doctor. A photo can miss cross-contact, the oil something was fried in, or what went into a sauce, so treat a flag, or the lack of one, as a prompt to check.

Where does my data go?

Your diary, symptoms, sensitivity profile and meal photos are kept in the app on your phone. When you scan a meal, the photo and its AI reading go to Meadow's servers and a third-party AI provider, and Ask Meadow questions go the same way. Barcodes you scan are looked up in a third-party food database. Purchase records are held by Apple, Google and a third-party subscription provider. Basic usage statistics can be switched off in the app. No account or email required. The Privacy Policy has the full detail.

How much does it cost and how does the free trial work?

Meadow costs $2 per week or $50 per year, billed through the App Store or Google Play. Either plan starts with a 3-day free trial, for new subscribers only. The plan you choose is billed when the trial ends. Renews automatically until cancelled. Cancel anytime in your App Store or Google Play settings at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancel during the trial and you won't be charged. Photo scans and Ask Meadow questions are included in both plans, subject to fair use.

How do I cancel?

In the app, open You, then Subscription, and tap Manage to reach your store's subscription page. Renews automatically until cancelled. Cancel anytime in your App Store or Google Play settings at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancel during the trial and you won't be charged. Deleting the app or your data does not cancel your subscription.

How do I delete my data?

In the app, go to You, then Delete my data. That erases your diary, symptoms, sensitivity profile, meal photos and Ask Meadow history from your phone, and it does not cancel your subscription. Scanned meal photos and their AI readings are also held on Meadow's servers under your guest ID; Delete my data erases those too, and you can also ask for them to be removed by following the steps on the Data Deletion page. Copies passed to a third-party AI provider so a meal could be read cannot be deleted by us.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no password, and the name the app asks for is optional. No account or email required. The app creates a guest ID on first launch so scans, purchases and Ask Meadow can be matched to your install. Reinstalling starts a fresh guest ID, and Restore purchases brings your subscription back.

Which phones does it support?

iPhones running iOS 13 or later, and Android phones running Android 6.0 or later. Get it from the App Store or Google Play.

How does Meadow decide what to flag?

Meadow reads your meal photo with an AI service, lists the ingredients it can see or would usually expect in that dish, and compares them with the foods in your sensitivity profile. Matches are marked Watch. Every reading starts as Unconfirmed until you confirm or change the dish name. Meadow suggests, you decide.
